To get married in the Bahamas you need to have a Bahamas marriage license and to obtain a Bahamas wedding license, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Bahamas Wedding License Application:
    • Both parties must apply for a marriage license at the Registrar General's Department.
    • This must be done in person but you can use our Priority Bahamas Marriage License Service to start the process online.
    • You must complete and sign the "COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS Application for a Marriage License" (Form No.15 as prescribed by the Registrar General under section 19 of The Marriage Act Ch. 106).

  3. Documents:
    • If you have never been married and are a non-Bahamian, then you will need an Affidavit of Single-hood signed in the Bahamas as proof of your status
    • If either party has been previously married, you'll need to provide proof of the dissolution of the previous marriage (divorce decree or death certificate).
  4. Bahamas Wedding License Application Fees:
    • There is a fee for the marriage license, which is $100.00.
  5. Waiting Period:
    • There is no waiting period after you receive your Bahamas wedding license, meaning you can get married in the Bahamas the same day, once you have your wedding license.
  6. Bahamas Wedding Ceremony:
    • The Bahamas marriage laws require that you have your wedding ceremony performed by a licensed Bahamas Marriage Officer.
    • You must have your wedding within 90 days as your wedding license is only valid for 90 days.
